Marangu, the oldest route on Kilimanjaro, has been perceived to be the easiest and most popular route (also called the "coca cola route”). It is a straight forward route, approaching the mountain from the eastern side, offering accommodations on 3 wooden hut stations.Marangu has beautiful scenery and gives hikers a chance to explore all the vegetation zones of Kilimanjaro, including mountain rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert and snowfields.
All though it is perceived to be the easier route it is still a challenge, and the summit is more challenging on this route than on some of the other routes.5 days is the normal itinerary on this route, but we recommend 6 days for better acclimatization.
After breakfast we head to the National Park gate for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The trail climbs through a tropical rain forest, near the upper edge of the forest line (keep an eye out for blue monkeys). The trail then widens to expose beautiful hillsides until we reach Mandara Hut.
